Hi, I’m Richard and I’m the proud owner of Greens Removals and Storage. The life of a Managing Director is as dynamic and fast-paced as the industry itself. From overseeing logistics to ensuring customer satisfaction, no two days are ever the same. Here’s a glimpse into a typical day for me:
The day begins with a morning routine designed to set the tone. A quick dog walk with my two spaniels and a large coffee sets the stage before diving into emails to review overnight updates from international partners and teams. Here at Greens, we handle moves across the UK and around the world, staying ahead of the inbox is crucial in a global industry where time zones overlap.
At the office, the first order of business is to catch up with our fantastic admin team. Whether it’s planning a corporate relocation to Singapore or a family move to Cornwall, clear communication keeps everything running smoothly. Our team is here to help you throughout the moving process, keeping you informed of updates and helping you to take the next step in this exciting chapter.
A significant part of the day involves connecting with customers and Business Partners across the globe. This might mean meeting a corporate client to plan a large-scale office relocation or speaking with a family preparing for an overseas move. Understanding their needs and providing tailored solutions is at the heart of Greens’ success. I’ve been leading this organisation for over 20 years and I still believe that championing our customers and making time to build excellent relationships is key to our success.
The afternoon is all about overcoming challenges and supporting my team to create the best possible experience for our customers. We know that life can sometimes throw us a curveball with customs delays or last-minute changes to a move-plan so we’re here to help you through the process. As Managing Director, it’s about finding swift, effective solutions while keeping clients informed and reassured. Long-term strategy also takes centre stage: analysing market trends, exploring new partnerships, or optimizing services.
Whenever possible, conducting surveys, visiting warehouses or storage facilities is a priority. Seeing operations in action offers insights that can’t always be captured on paper or in an email and helps build strong relationships with the frontline teams who make it all happen. Our Operatives work extremely hard to care for our customers and I’m really proud of them!
Running a business means keeping an eye on the numbers. Reviewing budgets, invoices, and financial forecasts ensures the company remains competitive while investing in growth areas like sustainability or new technologies to keep Greens Removals ahead of the curve.
The day winds down with a final check on emails, tying up loose ends, and preparing for tomorrow’s tasks.
As Managing Director, the role is more than a job—it’s a commitment to providing exceptional service and fostering a culture of excellence. Whether it’s managing a complex international shipping project or mentoring the next generation of leaders within our industry, every day brings new opportunities to make a difference.
At Greens Removals, it’s not just about moving items; it’s about moving lives forward.
