Removals to Hong Kong: Living in Wan Chai District
The district of Wan Chai has a population of around 170,000 people and is an upmarket area of Hong Kong, with several luxury apartments. It is where many of Hong Kong's top hotels are based and where celebrity spotters in the area of Bowen Drive can find movie stars out for their morning jog.
If you require removals to Hong Kong, the Wan Chai district is a prime location where 20 per cent of residents in the area are reported to have liquid assets of at least one million Hong Kong Dollars (HKD).
The Wan Chai district in the north of Hong Kong Island includes areas such as Wan Chai, Wan Chai North, Causeway Bay, Happy Valley, Tai Hang and Stubbs Road. It is described as the 'hub of the city' with shopping facilities, stalls, exhibition and conference centres, an arts centre, offices and government buildings.
While the district's Happy Valley is best known for its race course, Wan Chai is known for its red light area, with bars and strip joints. However, Wan Chai is also a place where you can find many interesting shops and stalls, including traditional street markets, and some fantastic great value clothing stores.
If you are moving to Wan Chai, there are numerous attractions in the Wan Chai district including: shops, restaurants, museums, parks, not forgetting trying your luck on the horses at Happy Valley.
Removals to Wan Chai District, Hong Kong: Places to Visit
If you are settling in the Wan Chai district, there are many places to visit in the area and here's our pick of some of the best.
One of the district's top tourist attractions is the Golden Bauhinia Square, outside the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. In the centre of the square is a 6 ft. sculpture of the Bauhinia tree, also known as the Hong Kong orchid. The square is where the ceremonies for the handover of Hong Kong and the founding of the Special Administrative Region took place in 1997 and, to mark this occasion, a flag is raised here every morning at 8 am.
If you want spectacular views over the city, head to Central Plaza which was once the tallest building in Hong Kong. It is open during business hours where, free of charge, you can take the lift to the 46th floor to see the island in its full glory.
Another place to visit is the Police Museum at Coombe Road which has 700 exhibits including replica drugs, counterfeit bank notes and even the head of a tiger, obtained after the animal was shot after it killed a policeman in 1915.
If you like shopping, the Wan Chai district has everything from department stores to traditional family shops and stalls.
Removals to the Wan Chai district: Accommodation for Expats
If you are looking to move to the Wan Chai district, you are very fortunate as this is one of the most prosperous areas to live in Hong Kong. In fact, Wan Chai district is the only district in Hong Kong without any public housing estates.
Happy Valley in particular is a popular residential area and is also the place where many expats settle. The tallest block of flats in Happy Valley are: 'The Summit' and the 75 storey 'Highcliff' and together the two buildings are affectionately referred to as 'The Chopsticks'. Both buildings face Mount Nicholson, a 430m tall mountain on Hong Kong Island.
Other residential developments here include: Beverly Hill, Comfort Mansion, Village Terrace, Gracedale, Valley View Terrace, Villa Lotto, Broadville, Broadwood Park and Friendship Court.
Space is limited in Hong Kong so accommodation tends to be small with minimal storage space. If you are looking for accommodation in the Wan Chai district, you can find anything from short term serviced apartments, to low rise buildings, modern flats and luxury housing complexes.
Removals to Hong Kong: Out and About In Wan Chai
